Septimus Severus was a Black Roman Emperor, who also ruled England as her King. He was the longest reigning Roman Emperor and among his immortal historical legacy was his work in rebuilding the fortifications of the British Isles, Hadrian's Wall to protect Great Britain from invaders. Britain, like many other European countries, was a part of the Roman Empire. Professor Kenneth Morgan, in his book, Oxford History of Britain, published in 1988, further highlights Septimus Severus' contribution to the British nation as follows:
"It was not until the Emperor Severus came to Britain
in 208 and flung his energies into the task of reorganization that
stability was achieved. So great had been the destruction, --- [of
British defense by other invading tribes --- N. McD] --- so massive were
his repairs that in later times he was thought to have built the
[Adrian's] Wall, which in fact he only reconstructed. He died at York in 211; but for a hundred years there was peace along the Roman wall."
THE BLACK KING OF ENGLAND
But hold a minute.... Am I going to far now... A Black man was ruling England?
Bede, the reknowed Catholic Historian decisively settles the issue of Septimus Severus race, and his exemplary role in British history. In his book "History of the English Church and People, Penguin Classics, (republished in 1968), Bede, writes on the historical question of Septimus Severus race, as follows:
"In the year of our Lord 189, Severus, an African born at Liptis in the province of Tripolitania,
became the seventeenth Emperor from Augustus [Caesar] and ruled
seventeen years. Harsh by nature, he was engaged in constant warfare,
and ruled the State with courage, but with great difficulty. He was
victorious in the grave civil wars that troubled his reign. He was
compelled to come to Britain by the desertion of nearly all the tribes allied to Rome,
and after many critical and hard fought battles he decided to separate
that portion of the island under his control from the remaining
unconquered people."
The ethnic composition of Great Britain,
and the evolution of the English Language, was based upon the
amalgamation of early Germanic tribes, Norsemen, Scots, Irish and other
nomadic, seafaring and farming clans. Emperor Septimus Severus, the
Roman Emperor, is a Black African who liberated England
and sat upon the British throne for many years. Although it is said
that he persecuted the early Christians, he now lies buried in lonely
solitude at the Church of York, with no acknowledgement, not even in hindsight, for his role in liberating and safeguarding Great Britain.
LONGEST REIGNING EMPEROR
Lucius Septimus Severus was born 146 years after the Romans crucified Jesus Christ. Rome then, was in a period of great turmoil with a lot of back-stabbers vying to lead the empire. Emperor Pertinax, the sitting 'don-dadda' lasted only three months before being knifed. Severus marched on Rome and seized power. According
to my calculations, --- (and other details to be published in my upcoming
book on Black History), --- of 27 Roman Emperors who ruled the Roman Empire, including Great Britain, between 27 years before Christ was born, until 38 years after Christ death, Severus reign was the longest. On his death he was named "one of the four crowned martyrs"
by the Roman Catholic Church and was buried at the Church of York,
England. This, in my opinion, signifies that he may have secretly been
converted to Christianity. This is merely a small part of the
invaluable, unacknowledged contribution that members of the Black
family have made to the development of human civilization. And yet, there
it is, that Severus, The Black King of England, lies, buried in the confines of the cobwebs of history, unsung and unwept. [SEND COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS TO: mackaback@hotmail.com . HOMEWORK.... PLEASE RESEARCH "The Ancestors of Septimius Severus" AND DISCUSS IT WITH YOUR CHILDREN]
